OUT THE WINDOW
In March 2009, ten students from the Home Base After School Program visited the Village on Stilts in the coast of Ghana in West Africa.This small village of about 100 people is situated on a dusty and bumpy track. One must travel by small boats to reach the inhabitants of this village.
We found a one-room schoolhouse with chalk board and tables with chairs for the eager students. The Home Base students brought gifts of books, pencils and writing pads for the small classroom of about thirty elementary students. The village recently acquired a young enthusiastic teacher who married a young man from the village. She welcomed our gifts with much appreciation.
The Home Base After School Program decided to continue its support this school by writing a book of poetry, Out the Window, and using the proceeds of its sales to help fund the Village on Stilts school.
